Small Businesses and Creative Design at the Country Living Spring Show
We had a fantastic time over the last few days taking our felt animal slippers to the Country Living Spring show in London. It took place between 19th and 23rd March, and each day was packed with shoppers and browsers keen for items that are beautiful and unusual. There was a wonderful range of unique products, handmade craft, ideas for the home and garden as well as workshops, demonstrations, talks and food tasting.
The response to our felt slipper collection was wonderful - their bright faces made people stop and smile at the stand! We took nine of our most popular designs in child and adult sizes, and made canvas prints out of our favourites, showing their beautiful details. I was pleased to meet so many new customers and I was delighted at the response we got.
The stand was in an area of new exhibitors, and I met other people who have started their own small, creative businesses, such as Hill & Ellis and Lovely Notebooks. I found it really inspiring meeting other people who have started their own business through a love of craft, design, or as a natural progression from a hobby.
For instance, Catherine, of Hill and Ellis, designs gorgeous bike bags, which she started as a keen cyclist who wanted a stylish bag for her bike. She has now produced an amazing collection of bags with lots of fabulous details, such as hidden panier hooks for attaching easily to your bike. They are made in beautiful brown leather and look great as handbags too. It made me want to get on my bike again and go cycling on the seafront!
Another small business start-up, Lovely Notebooks, is the creation of Carissa Abraham, who designs vibrant and eclectic stationary, including notebooks, photo albums and tablet cases. As a lover of writing and keeping journals, I found it hard to choose between the bright, bold and beautiful designs in her gorgeous range.
And I just loved the needle felt designs by Lucy with Love, especially the animals, such as this gorgeous little rabbit who has been meticulously crafted!
I was so pleased to see so many new and creative businesses being showcased at the fair, and I wish there had been more time to make my way around all of the stands, and but there is always the Christmas show!
Bye for now x
